Micronutrients was founded on the concept that high-performance, bio-active compounds for nutrition can be economically manufactured by carefully tailoring their chemical structure to achieve controlled release in the digestive tract of an animal. The flagship product is basic copper chloride (trademarked Micronutrients TBCC®), which is currently being used in most species, including chickens, turkeys, pigs, beef and dairy cattle, and horses.

The copper feedstocks used to manufacture Micronutrients TBCC® are obtained predominately from the circuit board manufacturing industry. Those manufacturers use liquid etchants to strip copper, which creates liquid wastes that for many years were considered and disposed of as hazardous waste. Micronutrients' use of these etchants as ingredients successfully removes them from the nation’s waste streams.
